Denver Nuggets vs. New York Knicks
01/21 Nuggets vs Knicks - 07:30pm (ET)
The New York Knicks take on the Denver Nuggets Saturday night (Jan. 21) in a very interesting match-up. Many players on the roster for the Nuggets played in New York before getting traded for Carmelo Anthony last season. Now the two teams come together for the only game they will play against each other this year.
The Knicks are coming off a tough loss, one that I called embarrassing, against the struggling Milwaukee Bucks. It seems that the Knicks are often taking on struggling opponents and giving them that extra boost to get back on the winning track. Now the Knicks host a very hot Nuggets team that has won three-straight games and now has a record of 11-5 on the season.
Five players for the Nuggets average more than 12 points per game and point guard Ty Lawson leads the team at 16.4 per game. This is also one of the deepest rosters in the league, with 11 players seeing consistent action this year. That is what will make this an extremely difficult game for the Knicks as the second unit may find it impossible to keep up with the speed and youth of the Nuggets bench.
The starters for Denver are likely center Timofey Mozgov, power forward Nene Hilario, small forward Danilo Gallinari, shooting guard Arron Afflalo and Lawson at point guard. Al Harrington, Rudy Fernandez and Andre Miller are just three of the bench players that could prove dangerous on Saturday night (Jan. 21). Denver scores 104.6 points per game on 48.4 percent shooting and can become very dangerous from three-point range.
Anthony is very likely to come out firing in this game, all in attempt to prove something to himself, the Nuggets and the Knicks fans. That could become the key to this game right there, as Anthony has even odds to lead the Knicks or shoot them right out of the game if he can't find the touch. There is an APB out for Amare Stoudemire on offense as well, so hopefully someone can track him down and figure out what is going wrong on offense.
At 6-9 the Knicks may have to win this game just to help Mike D'Antoni keep his job as the coach of the team. Maybe a change is in order though, because this team looks completely lost and it is getting hard for fans to watch. During the game against the Bucks on Friday, fans were chanting for the New York Giants in the fourth quarter, showing that the attention span of the fans is waning.
Game time for the Knicks vs. Nuggets is 7:30 p.m. ET.
